RETIRED teacher Fiona Mackenzie will be Labor’s candidate in Wannon, describing it as “my duty to stand in this turning-point election”.<\/p>\n
“We need to see the good programs of Labor continue to ensure a sustainable future for all,” she said.<\/p>\n
Ms Mackenzie said good policy formed good government.<\/p>\n
“Labor have provided the largest-ever boost to Medicare, expanding bulk-billing and ensuring cheaper medicines.<\/p>\n
“Labor is to be commended for developing the NDIS and continuing to produce policies which support social justice.<\/p>\n
“We live in a rich country and can afford to share \u2013 and care.”<\/p>\n
She said the electorate of Wannon would see the most change of any region, given its potential for Labor’s “Made in Australia” policy of quality manufacturing using renewable energy and the creation of new, “real” jobs that would attract more families, new housing construction and growing tourism.<\/p>\n
“Labor\u2019s number one priority is tackling the cost-of-living and they are succeeding, with a tax-cut for every tax payer, energy bill relief, more housing, fee-free TAFE courses and a 20 per cent reduction in HECS fees.<\/p>\n
“Free TAFE courses are providing us with the apprentices we need for the building and construction industry and health services. The building of more childcare facilities and cheaper childcare will provide the support needed for working families.”<\/p>\n
She said under the incumbent Albanese Government, the economy had improved and export trade had re-opened.<\/p>\n
“Industry\u2019s supply of energy, supported by solar and wind power, is secured and we have plenty of sun and wind in the south-west \u2013 providing real power to people.<\/p>\n
“Change will happen for Wannon and I want to ensure it is the best for future generations.<\/p>\n
