{"id":158569,"date":"2025-04-04T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2025-04-03T17:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/?p=158569"},"modified":"2025-04-02T15:56:21","modified_gmt":"2025-04-02T04:56:21","slug":"annual-festival-success","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/news\/annual-festival-success\/","title":{"rendered":"Annual festival success"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>ORGANISERS of this year&#8217;s Deans Marsh Festival are celebrating a successful event with a record number of attendees.<\/p>\n<p>Slightly wet weather wasn&#8217;t enough to keep people away from the March 30 event, which included market stalls, old-fashioned competitions, vintage tractors and cars, pony rides and more.<\/p>\n<p>Event organiser Caroline Shelbourne said it was a really great day and they estimated about 1,800 people were in attendance.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It was a brilliant day, we had our biggest crowd yet and all our community groups have reported raising the most funds they&#8217;ve raised in a while,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2025\/04\/IMG_2957_30663.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The 2025 Deans Marsh Festival saw community members turn out to be part of one of the event&#8217;s biggest crowds in recent years.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We thought the weather might hold people away but it didn&#8217;t, it was overcast and a little bit drizzly, but that seemed to be perfect conditions for people staying up in the hinterland.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We had the Freeza Youth bands from Torquay Secondary school and Lorne secondary, they were both amazing and they really added a great atmosphere to the day.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>There was lots going on across the Deans Marsh Memorial Reserve with pony rides and a reptile display also among the events highlights.<\/p>\n<p>Attendees also had the opportunity to tap into their competitive sides with the Deans Marsh Gift, bird calling competition, sheaf toss, gumboot toss and dog jump.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2025\/04\/IMG_2939_30652.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The Gumboot toss was a crowd favourite at the festival.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The gumboot toss was really popular and the gift, they were big crowd pullers and everyone hung around for that which was great,&#8221; Ms Shelbourne said.<\/p>\n<p>Funds raised from the event went towards supporting the Deans Marsh CFA and Cottage by the Sea.<\/p>\n<p>Ms Shelbourne thanked the sponsors of the event and the community for showing their support.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>ORGANISERS of this year&#8217;s Deans Marsh Festival are celebrating a successful event with a record number of attendees.
