EXPERTS in synthetic sports surfaces Polytan will take on the role of head contractor for the construction of the Banyul-Warri Fields hockey pitch.<\/p>\n
Announced by Member for Western Victoria Gayle Tierney, the Victorian-based company is a preferred supplier with the Federation of International Hockey and has installed hockey pitches at Olympic Games venues and suburban and regional hockey centres across Australia.<\/p>\n
The Surf Coast venue will include state-of-the-art, eco-friendly Poligras Paris GT hockey system, the second in Australia.<\/p>\n
Construction is expected to be completed by mid-2026 which will deliver a new hockey pitch, lighting, scoreboard, spectator seating and car parking.<\/p>\n
“This is an exciting opportunity for the Surf Coast community, especially for our local hockey players and fans who have long dreamed of a facility like this,” Ms Tierney said.<\/p>\n
“The Banyul-Warri Fields project is more than just a new pitch-it’s about creating a vibrant home for hockey, where athletes of all ages train, compete and celebrate the sport they love.<\/p>\n
“This investment will not only grow the game locally but also position our region as a destination for top-level sporting events.”<\/p>\n
The pitch will be home to the Torquay Hockey Club who will use the facility to play and train on, while creating more opportunities for hockey events, local jobs and engagement with organisations, businesses and suppliers.<\/p>\n
“Local excitement continues to build for this awesome new facility, particularly from Torquay Tornadoes Hockey Club who advocated for the pitch over many years,” Surf Coast Shire mayor Mike Bodsworth said.<\/p>\n
“We’re proud to team up with the Victorian government to deliver another important project in the Banyul-Warri Fields sporting precinct.”<\/p>\n
The project is being delivered in partnership with the Surf Coast Shire and Victorian government through the Regional Sports Infrastructure Program.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
