UPGRADES set to blend comfort, sustainability, and natural beauty at Apollo Bay Recreation Reserve are getting under way and are expected to be completed by the middle of 2025.<\/p>\n
It means limited camping will be available at the popular spot in the first half of the year.<\/p>\n
The Great Ocean Road Coast and Parks Authority (GORCAPA) said the reserve would be closed to camping during the works, except for the Easter long weekend (April 17 to April 22), Anzac Day long weekend (April 25 to April 27) and the Great Ocean Road Running Festival (May 16 to May 18).<\/p>\n
Limited camping areas will be available outside the construction zone at those times and the works will also not limit access to the sports and recreation facilities in the reserve.<\/p>\n
GORCAPA said ACE Landscape Services Pty Ltd had been awarded the contract to lead the redevelopment of the accommodation precinct at the northern end of the campground.<\/p>\n
The revitalisation project will introduce state-of-the-art features, including the addition of 10 Safari Eco Tents and 10 pop-up tents, offering a stylish and immersive camping experience, including five options that are fully accessible with Disability Discrimination Act-compliant bathrooms.<\/p>\n
There will also be new road alignment and civil works to improve functionality and visitor flow, re-grassed green spaces as well as upgraded signage, park benches, and bin enclosures to elevate the visitor experience.<\/p>\n
The redevelopment is made possible through funding from Regional Development Victoria, GORCAPA, and the Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action.<\/p>\n
GORCAPA’s Andy Mathers said the reserve held a special place in the hearts of locals and visitors alike.<\/p>\n
