{"id":159229,"date":"2025-04-14T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2025-04-13T18:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/?p=159229"},"modified":"2025-04-09T19:51:48","modified_gmt":"2025-04-09T09:51:48","slug":"juc-ready-for-bells-parking-mecca","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/news\/juc-ready-for-bells-parking-mecca\/","title":{"rendered":"Juc ready for Bells parking mecca"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>THE Jan Juc Cricket Club is preparing their signage, flags and cones ahead of this year&#8217;s Rip Curl Pro Bells Beach.<\/p>\n<p>A team of more than 50 volunteers will again assist drivers in parking their vehicle on site at the world&#8217;s longest running surfing event.<\/p>\n<p>All funds raised from car parking will go back into supporting the Sharks&#8217; cricketing programs.<\/p>\n<p>Jan Juc president Andrew Penton said the club was expecting a bumper crowd for all days of the event, particularly with it coinciding with Easter.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s bloody hard work. You don&#8217;t know whether you&#8217;re on or you&#8217;re off, and you&#8217;re starting at dawn and finishing at dusk.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2025\/04\/IMG_8731_18049.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The pair will be in charge of the parking at the Rip Curl Pro Bells Beach. It gets us out in the community and its terrific to be a part of.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Over the course of the journey, there&#8217;ll be thousands and thousands of vehicles, particularly if the waves are pumping or the Aussies are in it.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We can&#8217;t wait.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Since taking over the car parking in 2008, the club has raised more than $10,000.<\/p>\n<p>This has assisted in the expansion of their junior cricket pathways, and the recent establishment of women&#8217;s and girls&#8217; programs.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s vital for us to help us with running the club,&#8221; Penton said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We put in a new shed last year with the funding, we&#8217;ve put it towards a new scoreboard, and it also helps us out with our recruiting.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2025\/04\/3342DEF5-_54572.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">An aerial shot from 2018 of the parking at the Rip Curl Pro Bells Beach. I don&#8217;t think any other organisation could run it as well as we do.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The club continue to have a strong relationship with Surfing Victoria, World Surf League and the owner of the land for parking, Bob Johnson.<\/p>\n<p>Parking has been usually been $5 on the day.
