{"id":159259,"date":"2025-04-15T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2025-04-14T18:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/?p=159259"},"modified":"2025-04-11T10:37:59","modified_gmt":"2025-04-11T00:37:59","slug":"badges-on-for-anzac-day","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/news\/badges-on-for-anzac-day\/","title":{"rendered":"Badges on for Anzac Day"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>TORQUAY RSL volunteers will be out in force over the next fortnight selling badges as part of the Anzac Appeal.<\/p>\n<p>More than 20 local volunteers will be stationed outside of Woolworths, Coles, the Torquay Farmers Market and Bunnings from tomorrow (Saturday ,April 12) until Anzac Day on April 25.<\/p>\n<p>All profits from the ANZAC Appeal will go directly toward supporting veterans and their families with critical support services, including crisis accommodation for at-risk veterans, financial assistance for families in need, health and wellbeing programs, and help with accessing pension entitlements. Local schools will also have trays of badges for sale.<\/p>\n<p>Torquay RSL vice-president Bob Tyler said the fundraiser is one of their biggest each year.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It allows us to provide services so returned veterans can come and be supported through moral support, food packages and more.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2025\/04\/IMG_8754_89133.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">RSL volunteers will be selling badges out the front of local supermarkets, Bunnings and at the Torquay Farmers Market.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;They can come in and talk, and we will do our best to help them in whatever way we can.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>RSL Victoria President Dr Robert Webster explained the demand for veteran support is increasing.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The Anzac Appeal is the major annual fundraiser that supports veterans in the sometimes-difficult navigation of life post-service.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The final report of the Royal Commission into Defence and Veteran Suicide made it clear that those challenges are increasing.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This is consistent with the feedback from our Sub-branch network who are reporting a growing need for their help in meeting the issues faced by the younger generations of veterans.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Donations to the Anzac Appeal can be made at <a href=\"http:\/\/anzacappeal.com.au\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">anzacappeal.com.au<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Anyone keen on selling badges can contact the Torquay RSL.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>TORQUAY RSL volunteers will be out in force over the next fortnight selling badges as part of the Anzac Appeal.
