Photo: ETHAN SMITH\/SURFING AUSTRALIA<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Torquay finished fourth in its first heat, narrowly qualifying for the redemption round.<\/p>\n<p>Led by the efforts of former world tour competitor Troy Brooks, the club finished atop of the field, advancing into the quarterfinals.<\/p>\n<p>From then onwards, Torquay steamrolled through its heats, smashing its quarterfinal and semi-finals with high scores, setting it all up for a grandstand finish.<\/p>\n<p>The finale of the event was a nail-biter between Torquay, eventual winners North Shore and Mereweather.<\/p>\n<p>Torquay kicked off in incredible fashion with standout surfer Tully Wylie locking in an 8.45 out of a possible 10 points.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_159375\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-159375\" style=\"width: 599px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-159375 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2025\/04\/491464895_1850140318_02877.jpg?_t=1744598852\" alt=\"\" width=\"599\" height=\"449\" srcset=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2025\/04\/491464895_1850140318_02877.jpg 1200w, https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2025\/04\/491464895_1850140318_02877-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2025\/04\/491464895_1850140318_02877-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2025\/04\/491464895_1850140318_02877-768x576.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 599px) 100vw, 599px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-159375\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Torquay had strong representation on the rocks during the event final.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Ellie Harrison followed with a sharp 7.28 to put Torquay out into the lead heading into the final ten minutes of the event.<\/p>\n<p>However, it all came down to the final surfer, with North Shore surfer Alister Reginato locking in a 5.88 to inch them just ahead.<\/p>\n<p>Local star Xavier Huxtable was left needing a mid-range score to put Torquay back into the lead, however fell just short.<\/p>\n<p>North Shore finished with 39.34, followed by Torquay on 38.19, Mereweather on 37.45, Snapper Rocks on 34.37, North End on 30.66 and Byron Bay on 23.04.<\/p>\n<p>Huxtable, who was awarded the Oakley Prizm Performer of the event, said he could not be any more proud of the club.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_159389\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-159389\" style=\"width: 607px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-159389 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2025\/04\/Celebration_ABBD2130425_Smith_1528.jpg?_t=1744598930\" alt=\"\" width=\"607\" height=\"405\" srcset=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2025\/04\/Celebration_ABBD2130425_Smith_1528.jpg 8256w, https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2025\/04\/Celebration_ABBD2130425_Smith_1528-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2025\/04\/Celebration_ABBD2130425_Smith_1528-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2025\/04\/Celebration_ABBD2130425_Smith_1528-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2025\/04\/Celebration_ABBD2130425_Smith_1528-1536x1024.jpg 1536w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 607px) 100vw, 607px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-159389\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Xavier Huxtable was awarded the Oakley Prizm Performer award.
