{"id":159975,"date":"2025-04-24T04:00:57","date_gmt":"2025-04-23T18:00:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/?p=159975"},"modified":"2025-04-23T15:52:15","modified_gmt":"2025-04-23T05:52:15","slug":"help-launch-a-library-of-things","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/news\/help-launch-a-library-of-things\/","title":{"rendered":"Help launch a Library of Things"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>LOCAL residents and community groups are being encouraged to apply for a one-off $20,000 grant to help establish and run a Library of Things in the Surf Coast Shire.<\/p>\n<p>The Library of Things will provide people with the opportunity to borrow all sorts of household item for free.<\/p>\n<p>The concept will help drive a circular economy, reduce unnecessary consumption, enable skill sharing and create a more equitable and connected community.<\/p>\n<p>Surf Coast Shire councillor Libby Stapleton hoped the community would get behind the initiative.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;With the current cost of living crisis, this initiative will help households avoid additional expenses, by borrowing items they only need to use occasionally, rather than having to buy them,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It should also means less items end up in landfill.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The $20,000 funding will help run the Library of Things for the first three to six months.<\/p>\n<p>The shire is open to all Library of Things proposals, such as online or shop models, a new initiative, or an add on to an existing facility.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We&#8217;d love to hear your ideas and what you think would work for our community,&#8221; Cr Stapleton said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I encourage anyone interested in applying for this grant to get in touch with council officers who can discuss your idea to ensure it is eligible, and to help answer any questions about a Library of Things and the grant application process.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Applications to the Library of Things grant are now open and close on May 11.<\/p>\n<p>For more information and to apply, head to<a href=\"http:\/\/surfcoast.vic.gov.au\/LoTGrant\"> surfcoast.vic.gov.au\/LoTGrant<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>LOCAL residents and community groups are being encouraged to apply for a one-off $20,000 grant to help establish and run a Library of Things in the Surf Coast Shire.
