A FINAL concept design has been developed for the mixed-use site above the Torquay Angling Club at Fishermans Beach, following community feedback.<\/p>\n

The site, which has been licenced to Bomboras under a trial arrangement for the past seven years, will maintain a food and beverage offering, with improvements to the space to better facilitate community use of the area.<\/p>\n

Community consultation on the design was undertaken by the Great Ocean Road Coast and Parks Authority (GORCAPA) through 2024 and highlighted that the site is highly valued as a space for social gatherings and events, along with the community’s desire to balance public access to the site’s beach viewing platform with its commercial operation.<\/p>\n

The new design will retain the site’s existing casual, surf-town timber aesthetic, while improving accessibility, providing greater weather protection, and preserving the views to the beach.<\/p>\n

“We heard loud and clear that the site is highly valued by the community who love using it for community gatherings and a place to relax, as well as visiting the commercial bar area,” GORCAPA acting chief executive Andy Mathers said.<\/p>\n

“We’re grateful to everyone who shared their thoughts on the site, and we were pleased to see most of the feedback supporting the draft concept design.<\/p>\n

“It’s clear this is a special place for the Torquay community, and our goal is to ensure public access is preserved while we deliver important upgrades to improve safety, weather protection and accessibility.”<\/p>\n

Construction of the new design is expected to begin later this year.<\/p>\n

GORCAPA has indicated it will continue to investigate additional funding opportunities to upgrade the nearby public toilet and shower facilities.<\/p>\n
