VEGETATION removal works will be completed on local roads in Fairhaven to help reduce fire fuel roads and improve public safety.<\/p>\n
Works will be undertaken from Monday, April 28 to May 9 on Werona Road, Yandanah Road, Biralee Road and Banool Road.<\/p>\n
These roads have excessive vegetation growing on the roadside, contributing to the fire risk in the area.<\/p>\n
The current levels of vegetation reduce access for emergency vehicles and residents, making it more difficult to fight a fire.<\/p>\n
Works will involve the removal of weedy, non-indigenous vegetation within the road reserve.<\/p>\n
Indigenous vegetation will be retained, while others may also be kept to help minimise potential erosion risks.<\/p>\n
Councillor Leon Walker said management activities would support the containment of fire if one was to break out in the area.<\/p>\n
“Even though Autumn has started, we know our fire risk is still high, and fire preparedness is an ongoing activity.<\/p>\n
“These works will complement our winter fuel reduction program, a program we have been running since 2009.”<\/p>\n
Traffic control will be in place during the works, and minor delays may be experienced.<\/p>\n
