EARLIER this week, Council released its proposed Budget for the next four years.<\/p>\n
Along with the Council plan, this is one of the most significant pieces of work that Council produces.<\/p>\n
A key element of the proposed Budget is that it is now open for community feedback.<\/p>\n
Unlike when state or federal governments release their budgets, the Council Budget is open for public review and feedback before the final version is endorsed in June.<\/p>\n
The Budget process allows for extensive feedback, and our community engagement team works tirelessly to ensure there are multiple opportunities for residents to share their views on many matters that will impact them.<\/p>\n
Last year I campaigned on a platform of openness and community advocacy, and I am determined to stay true to my word. I have seen firsthand the role that community engagement plays in building trust.<\/p>\n
That is why I am planning on holding a series of community engagement sessions across the next few months for residents of the Charlemont ward.<\/p>\n
These will build on the community engagement sessions I held recently at the Armstrong Creek East Community Hub and Belmont Library.<\/p>\n
Community engagement is about connecting with those who are directly impacted by the decisions council makes.<\/p>\n
None of us get to walk in another’s shoes. That’s why it is so important we consult people from all backgrounds and understand issues from the perspective of different lived experiences, I truly believe this is how we create accessible and inclusive communities.<\/p>\n
We all benefit when the decision-making process is informed by the people who live, work, and invest in our community, so my pledge is to learn what matters to you.<\/p>\n
It is vital that people feel heard and see their input reflected in final decisions, as it strengthens the relationship between council and the community.<\/p>\n
But meaningful engagement isn’t just about showing up, it is about inviting everybody in.<\/p>\n
So as a council, we have a responsibility to create further opportunities for participation that are accessible and inclusive by reaching out to those who may not always feel like their voices are welcome or heard.<\/p>\n
My community engagement sessions for Charlemont residents will be held at Belmont Library and Armstrong Creek Community Hub on alternating fortnights.<\/p>\n
Further details around dates and times will be published ahead of these meetings, but I would love to see a large turnout and get to know the people in my ward and the issues you would like Council to address.<\/p>\n
