Gotta say this is one of my favourite weeks of the year, and if you were to ask why, the answer is very simple – the last week of winter and the days are getting longer and the mercury begins its journey towards 20 degrees for the first time in months. With it comes an end to the various winter sports programs in the district as finals series get underway and for the Lorne Football and Netball Club (The Dolphins) this year presents a great opportunity for our footballers.<\/p>\n
Following on from last season\u2019s history making year when both our A and B Grade senior netballers pulled off the near impossible of securing joint premierships, this year the same opportunity awaits our footballers, and more. The Dolphins enter the finals series with all teams well and truly primed for September, a first for a number of years, with both senior sides finishing second on the ladder, our Under 17s third and our Under 14.5s fourth.<\/p>\n
A big weekend coming up in Colac where all sides will pursue their dream to win a premiership. The Central Reserve in Colac will play host to the finals series with our Seniors, Reserves and Under 17s playing on Saturday, with the benefit of a double chance and our \u201cyoung guns\u201d in an Elimination Final on Sunday. If you get a chance, get over to Colac and support the Dolphins!<\/p>\n
Always refreshing to hear positives emerge around processes and this week I couldn\u2019t help but be so impressed with the enthusiasm expressed by the Commodore of our local Lorne Angling and Aquatic Club (The Anglers) following their ongoing briefings and discussions with the Great Ocean Road Coast Committee (GORCC).<\/p>\n
We have reported on many occasions in this forum over the past five years, the \u201cunfolding\u201d of the Point Grey Precinct Plan and as the project enters the final phase of analysis and working with the Community feedback, momentum is continuing to build to a positive result.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Anglers Commodore\u201d and his working group have been working closely with GORCC Chief Executive Vanessa Schernickau and her team and the feedback and respect for the ongoing relationship and discussions is well positioned to deliver a positive outcome for all involved. Although this is only one element of the Point Grey Precinct it is certainly a great indication of GORCC\u2019s strong desire to work with the community to deliver a project that we can all be proud of.<\/p>\n
