COMMUNITY feedback will be used to help shape access to and from the coast in Mounts Bay into the future.<\/p>\n
The Great Ocean Road Coast and Parks Authority last week released its engagement summary for the Marengo Access Ramp Replacement Project.<\/p>\n
With the existing ramp nearing the end of its functional life, the replacement project will be focused on enhancing safety and resilience.<\/p>\n
Key community feedback was gathered via an online survey, two in-person drop-in sessions and through promotions on social media, stakeholder emails and local flyers.<\/p>\n
The response was strong, with more than 270 visits to the project webpage, 40 online survey contributions, and more than 50 community members participating in face-to-face conversations.’<\/p>\n
The existing ramp’s slippery rock shelf was a concern, with community members highlighting the need for improved access for all, especially for prams, wheelchairs and kayaks.<\/p>\n
In response, the new ramp design will feature a fibre-reinforced non-slip surface, grab rails and vertical balustrades.<\/p>\n
This will guide users to a more stable, drier section of the rock shelf, offering a safer way to explore the coast.<\/p>\n
The existing stairs were identified by many as a safety hazard due to frequent incidents on the slippery surface and thus will be removed.<\/p>\n
Visual integration was also high on the key takeaways, with participants expressing a strong desire for the ramp to blend in with the coastal environment.<\/p>\n
Light grey was the most supported colour, helping the new structure integrate seamlessly into the landscape.<\/p>\n
The need for hazard signage was also flagged during consultation and will be strategically placed and designed around the area to ensure visibility and clarity without detracting from the natural setting.<\/p>\n
Great Ocean Road Coast and Parks Authority acting chief executive officer Christine Ferguson said the authority was proud to be delivering a design shaped by community input.<\/p>\n
