THE Transport Accident Commission (TAC) is tackling road safety with the launch of the 2025 Club Rewards Program.<\/p>\n

The state Government, in partnership with AFL Victoria and TAC is calling upon grassroots football and netball clubs to promote road safety in their communities for a share of $700,000.<\/p>\n

AFL Victoria-affiliated football and netball clubs can apply for up to $10,000 for club initiatives, with the program aimed at developing a culture where road safety is considered before getting behind the wheel.<\/p>\n

“Footballers and netballers often drive hundreds of kilometres every year, travelling to and from training and matches, so road safety is something that needs to be front of mind,” TAC chief executive officer Tracey Slatter said.<\/p>\n

Last year’s pool of funding was awarded to more than 230 clubs and another $100,000 has been added this year, allowing more support for clubs in spreading the message.<\/p>\n

The priority for this year’s program is speeding, highlighting the fact speeding contributes to at least 30 per cent of fatal crashes and 25 per cent of serious injury crashes in Victoria each year.<\/p>\n

Clubs will be asked to have conversations and be part of the campaign raising awareness around the dangers of speeding, featuring the tagline Be the Difference.<\/p>\n

To be eligible, clubs need to:<\/p>\n

Sign up to the TAC Club Rewards Program<\/p>\n

Champion road safety within the club<\/p>\n

Get the community involved, and<\/p>\n

Show TAC how the club helped promote road safety.<\/p>\n

Head of AFL Victoria Greg Madigan said grassroots football clubs were full of leaders.<\/p>\n

“Now is the chance for everyone to Be The Difference by becoming road safety ambassadors, making safe decisions and acting as role models to their fellow members.”<\/p>\n

AFL Victoria will host a TAC Road Safety Round between July 21-27, encouraging clubs to raise awareness of road safety throughout Victoria.<\/p>\n
