MANY 13-year-olds aspire to one day become professional athletes, and Brodie Gawith is no exception. However, unlike many of his contemporaries, Brodie\u2019s passion lies in the sport of motocross.<\/p>\n
July 22 saw the conclusion of the Victorian Junior Motocross Championship, a competition in which Brodie secured third overall in the 85cc division.<\/p>\n
Brodie was pleased with his podium finish, however, a mechanical issue which compromised his bike\u2019s rear brakes in the final race cost Brodie a higher placing.<\/p>\n
Not content with his recent success at state level, Brodie now has his sights set on the Australian Titles. He will be travelling down to Tasmania to compete for the national title in the first week of October.<\/p>\n
The track conditions should suit the Mt Duneed local, with Brodie expecting to put on a good performance. <\/p>\n
In only his third year of competitive riding, Brodie has seen significant improvement. Partly due to the coaching of Joe Stevens, who along with the rest of the MAD MX coaching team have continued Brodie\u2019s development as a rider.<\/p>\n
However, Brodie\u2019s love for motocross and motorbikes in general is not restricted to race day. Brodie trains every evening after school at Ride Park or on the track that has been constructed in his own backyard. On the weekends when Brodie is not racing, he also trains at Park 4 MX.<\/p>\n
When he isn\u2019t on the bike, Brodie can be found in the gym, studiously following his specific workout regime.<\/p>\n
Brodie\u2019s talent and hard work has not gone unnoticed. He is fortunate enough to now have a number of sponsors: including Mototech KTM Geelong, JPC Performance, Thor Apparel, Spy Optic & Michelin Tyres.<\/p>\n
While Brodie\u2019s dedication to the sport is clear to see, he also enjoys the mateship and comradery he has with the other riders.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhen we\u2019re racing, we obviously want to beat everyone, but once the race is finished we\u2019re all mates again.\u201d<\/p>\n
