{"id":163321,"date":"2025-06-12T04:00:34","date_gmt":"2025-06-11T18:00:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/?p=163321"},"modified":"2025-06-11T15:43:31","modified_gmt":"2025-06-11T05:43:31","slug":"clubs-to-wear-yellow-armbands-for-inclusion-round","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/news\/clubs-to-wear-yellow-armbands-for-inclusion-round\/","title":{"rendered":"Clubs to wear yellow armbands for Inclusion Round"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>AFL BARWON football and netball clubs are this week celebrating the third edition of Inclusion Round which is being run in partnership with Leisure Networks.<\/p>\n<p>The round highlights both organisations&#8217; commitment to creating a safe, inclusive and welcoming sporting environment for all individuals, regardless of their ability, background, gender, culture or identity.<\/p>\n<p>To promote visibility and unity, all players and umpires participating in football and netball matches will wear yellow armbands, featuring the message &#8216;Together for Inclusion&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p>This year, Pride celebrations will also be a key part of Inclusion Round.<\/p>\n<p>Among the highlights is the pair of all-abilities footy matches today (Friday, June 13).<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2025\/06\/2025June10_697543310_92521.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Newcomb&#8217;s Matilda Hrkac, Chloe Hoyle, Hunter Armstrong, Nick Veitch and Blake Ritchie ahead of Inclusion Round.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Geelong West Giants host Newcomb at 6pm while Bell Park welcome St Joseph&#8217;s at 5.30pm.<\/p>\n<p>Newcomb&#8217;s Nick Veitch, 29, will be lining up for his third Inclusion Round match.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s important because people obviously still judge people, it&#8217;s not good in a way,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;So we want to try and make that better for everyone.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The games were to be played at GMHBA Stadium but were moved earlier this week due to the impact of wet weather.<\/p>\n<p>All-abilities netball was played on Tuesday this week.<\/p>\n<p>Another highlight is the marquee day of BFNL football and netball at Newcomb&#8217;s Grinter Reserve tomorrow (Saturday, June 14).<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 601px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2025\/06\/2025June10_696243309_92512.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"601\" height=\"549\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Portarlington&#8217;s Emily Lacy, Newcomb&#8217;s Matilda Hrkac and Chloe Hoyle with Portarlington&#8217;s Mackenzie Pigdon wearing their Inclusion Round armbands.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Club president Matt Farrow said the Power had been promoting a more inclusive approach across the past four years and also and had an all-abilities netball team.<\/p>\n<p>Newcomb senior footballer Blake Ritchie, 24, is an independent support worker and has worked in the disability space for the past four years.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We absolutely love having the all-abilities down at the club,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The last few years, it&#8217;s brought a bit of fresh air into the club.
