{"id":163401,"date":"2025-06-14T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2025-06-13T18:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/?p=163401"},"modified":"2025-06-12T10:07:29","modified_gmt":"2025-06-12T00:07:29","slug":"anakie-showdown-critical-for-bell-post-hill","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/sport\/anakie-showdown-critical-for-bell-post-hill\/","title":{"rendered":"Anakie showdown critical for Bell Post Hill"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>BELL Post Hill will venture to Anakie for a classic eight-point game in the GDFL at 2pm tomorrow (Saturday, June 14).<\/p>\n<p>The Panthers are on 20 premiership points with Bannockburn, Anakie and Thomson hot on their heels with 16 each.<\/p>\n<p>Coach Ash Whitney said he felt it would be a tight tussle for fourth and fifth spots at season&#8217;s end and he knew what was at stake this weekend.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;They beat Werribee Centrals, who I rated pretty highly.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;They knocked them off and then they beat Belmont, even though Belmont had a few out on the weekend, they knocked them off.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2025\/06\/0G2A5523_53922.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The Panthers&#8217; Zane Jones bursts away against Geelong West.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;So they&#8217;re playing some good footy as well. There are no easy games, everyone can beat anyone on their day so we&#8217;ll have to come with the right mindset.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Anakie is the only team to defeat Belmont Lions this year, beating them by 17 points in Round 8.<\/p>\n<p>Bell Post Hill beat Geelong West Giants 11.13 (79) to 5.6 (36) at home before last weekend&#8217;s league bye.<\/p>\n<p>They got away in the second half, outscoring the Giants 38-10.<\/p>\n<p>Whitney said the side was good without being great and was just pleased to bank another win in a tight competition.<\/p>\n<p>He shared some insight into how the Panthers were travelling this season.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2025\/06\/0G2A6831_53923.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Bell Post Hill&#8217;s Dylan Godwin streams forward with the ball.\u00a0<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s a tough one.
