COMPETITIVE wood chopping will take centre stage at Blackman’s Brewery next weekend, as the Torquay establishment hosts its second annual Wood Chopping Championship.<\/p>\n
The brewery will host the event in the venue’s outdoor beer garden on June 21 in partnership with the Western Victorian Axeman’s Association.<\/p>\n
Featuring 12 underhand and 12 standing block competitors, wood choppers will battle it out in a full elimination challenge.<\/p>\n
Competitors will cut one on one in two separate events, resulting in two finals of three choppers to crown an overall champion.<\/p>\n
Live entertainment from the Bluegrass Band will follow the presentation of the winners.<\/p>\n
Blackman’s Brewery owner Renn Blackman said it was sure to be a spectacle not to miss.<\/p>\n
“It’s pretty exciting to have 20 or so of the best wood choppers from around the state coming down to compete for a pretty good cash prize.<\/p>\n
“Everyone loves watching it, it’s quite mesmerising, and many of us have pretty fond memories of growing up and going to shows and watching it.<\/p>\n
“It’ll be great for people to sit there with a beer and watch all the action.”<\/p>\n
