THE City of Greater Geelong is again seeking nominations for the Geelong Youth Awards to honour inspiring young people in the community.<\/p>\n

It wants to recognise and celebrate those who have had or are presently having a positive impact in leadership, innovation, cultural awareness, community work, sport, arts, music and youth development.<\/p>\n

Nominations are open across nine categories to those aged between 12 and 25 who live, work, learn or play in Greater Geelong.<\/p>\n

Geelong mayor Stretch Kontelj said there were 132 nominations last year.<\/p>\n

“Think about the quiet achievers, changemakers, creatives and leaders in your life – if someone just popped into your head, that’s your sign to nominate them!”<\/p>\n

The winners will be revealed at a ceremony at the Norlane ARC on September 5.<\/p>\n

They will receive a trophy and a $500 contribution to support their ongoing interests and education.<\/p>\n

This year, the ceremony is being held during Youth Fest, a month-long celebration across Victoria highlighting the contributions and achievements of young people in their communities.<\/p>\n

Members of this year’s youth council will be on the judging panel and speak at the awards ceremony.<\/p>\n

The youth award categories are:<\/strong><\/p>\n

Active Achievement Award<\/p>\n

Arts & Music Award<\/p>\n

Citizenship Award<\/p>\n

Cultural Awareness Award<\/p>\n

Innovation Award<\/p>\n

Inspiration Award<\/p>\n

Leadership Award<\/p>\n

Unsung Hero Award<\/p>\n

Volunteer Award \u2013 Working with young people (all ages category).<\/p>\n
