TORQUAY pair Stella Huxtable and Greea McKeegan have made the Vic Country under-18 girls\u2019 squad for the coming AFL national championships.<\/p>\n

St Joseph\u2019s Georgia Tyrrell and Newtown and Chilwell\u2019s Meg Lappin were the other Geelong Falcons players selected.<\/p>\n

Torquay female footy coach Nicole Graves was thrilled for the Tigers’ duo.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt’s awesome, they’re two amazing young women and brilliant players.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s something Torquay is super proud of.\u201d<\/p>\n

Graves noted 16-year-old McKeegan had made the squad as a bottom-age player, a highly impressive feat.<\/p>\n

The Tigers’ coach explained McKeegan was a key position player while Huxtable excels through the midfield.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey get super excited and they’re super proud to play Vic Country.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere’s one level of the Falcons, but then the next level is their Vic Country.\u201d<\/p>\n

Graves said it was important for other girls to see the pair making the squad as it shows players can make it from the surf coast.<\/p>\n

She feels both players are tracking well toward getting drafted to the AFLW, due to their work-rate.<\/p>\n

The team will play four games across the next two months, with Vic Country playing the Allies in the opening game at Sandringham\u2019s Trevor Barker Beach Oval this Sunday, June 22 at 9.30am.<\/p>\n

The Allies features players from NSW-ACT, Northern Territory and Tasmania.<\/p>\n

Greater Western Victoria Rebels coach Sally Riley will coach Vic Country.<\/p>\n

The side will take on Queensland on June 28, before battling Vic Metro at RSEA Park in Melbourne on July 20 and South Australia away on August 10.<\/p>\n
