A NEW community arts project is set to shine a light on the unsung volunteers of the Surf Coast community.<\/p>\n

Launched by local resident and photographer Brett Dorron, the Surf Coast Heroes initiative will honour individuals within the region whose quiet dedication helps shape the town, strengthen community and support those in need.<\/p>\n

The project will culminate in a major public exhibition and a professionally printed keepsake book comprised of the portraits and stories of more than 20 local heroes.<\/p>\n

“Volunteers are the silent swell beneath the surface of our community,” Dorron said.<\/p>\n

“This project is about lifting them up – recognising and highlighting the contributions of these unsung heroes who give so much and expect nothing in return.<\/p>\n

“I’m calling for nominations of extraordinary heroes who donate their time and volunteer and turn up time and time again.<\/p>\n

“There are sporting clubs that have long-term volunteers who might have started when their kids were young, and are still there 20 years later.<\/p>\n

“They are the sort of people we are looking for.”<\/p>\n

The success of the Surf Coast Heroes project, he said, will depend entirely on the involvement of the community it celebrates.<\/p>\n

The project is seeking sponsors and in-kind supporters to help bring the exhibition and book to life.<\/p>\n

All of the profits raised from book sales and fundraising will be reinvested into Surf Coast charities, grassroots organisations and other causes.<\/p>\n

Once nominations are confirmed, a committee will be determined to pick the 20 or so featured individuals.<\/p>\n
