CONSTRUCTION is under way on a new shared pathway in north Torquay, as part of a Surf Coast Shire project aimed at improving connectivity, safety and amenity in the area.<\/p>\n
The 2.5-metre-wide path will be installed along Silvereye Street and Cormorant Way between Rosella Road and Magpie Way, linking with existing pathways and providing safer and easier access to Torquay Coast Primary School and the surrounding streets.<\/p>\n
“This is a great step forward in making our community more connected and active,” councillor Rebecca Bourke said.<\/p>\n
“Projects like these encourage people to get outside, walk, ride and enjoy their local area.<\/p>\n
“This pathway will help to make this area of Torquay accessible for everyone, including the hundreds of Torquay Coast school children.”<\/p>\n
Landscaping works, including the planting of native trees and the installation of seating and new drinking fountains, will also be completed along the pathway, while a raised pedestrian crossing will be built at the end of Cormorant Way, near Heath Street.<\/p>\n
Works are expected to wrap up in August, with the area to be fenced off for safety until the project is complete.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
