THE Surf Coast Shire has received a major Victorian project management excellence award.<\/p>\n
Council\u2019s Kurrambee Myaring Community Centre (KMCC) project won the community services\/development category at Australian Institute of Project Management Achievement Awards on August 23 and is in the running for national honours.<\/p>\n
Council has now won the Victorian award in three consecutive years.<\/p>\n
The KMCC was one of more than 250 projects overseen by the council during 2017-18.<\/p>\n
They ranged from playground and road upgrades to the creation of additional landfill capacity and delivering the Torquay Town Centre Urban Design Framework.<\/p>\n
Together they resulted in a record $22 million in project delivery over the past year.<\/p>\n
The Australian Institute for Project Management is the peak body for project management professionals.<\/p>\n
The awards focus on method used to plan and execute projects and reward strong project management practice.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is another outstanding acknowledgement for council\u2019s project delivery framework, which was established in 2016,\u201d Surf Coast Shire mayor David Bell said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe framework places strong emphasis on governance, definition and control of project scope, financial and risk management, communications and engagement, and learning and continuous improvement.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere are many variables in projects. Things may not always go to plan; however, council is committed to continuous improvement and the awards indicate that our efforts are taking us in the right direction.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Surf Coast Shire council won AIPM Victorian project management excellence awards in 2016 for establishment of its project delivery framework, and in 2017 for its Lorne Stribling Reserve Master Plan.<\/p>\n
Kurrambee Myaring Community Centre was formally opened in April this year.<\/p>\n
The $6.7 million centre includes kindergartens, areas for council services, consulting and community use rooms and amenities.<\/p>\n
Council general manager of culture and community Chris Pike, program management office manager Rowena Frost and project managers Simon Jeanes and Susan Green attended the AIPM awards.<\/p>\n
