KANE Constructions has been appointed to deliver stage 2 of the Wurdi Baierr Aquatic and Recreation Centre.<\/p>\n
Stage 2 of the centre in Torquay North will add a dedicated learn-to-swim pool, indoor splash park, spa, sauna and steam room, and additional change rooms as part of Stage 2.There will also be additional bench seating, storage and landscaping, and additional car parking.<\/p>\n
The centre’s second stage is fully funded by the Victorian government through the Regional Sports Infrastructure Program.<\/p>\n
Stage 1, funded by the federal and Victorian governments and the Surf Coast Shire and now being built by Kane Constructions at a cost of $46.3 million, includes an indoor 25m pool for lap and squad swimming, warm water indoor pool for exercise and hydrotherapy, gymnasium and program rooms, and allied health suites.<\/p>\n
Both stages will sit next to the existing Wurdi Baierr Stadium and are expected to be complete in late 2026.<\/p>\n
Member for Western Victoria Gayle Tierney announced the appointment of Kane Constructions for stage 2 on Thursday last week.<\/p>\n
“This is such wonderful news for Torquay and the wider Surf Coast and Geelong communities \u2013 including Armstrong Creek,” she said.<\/p>\n
“We know how much locals love getting in the water, and this next stage means there’ll be even more opportunities for people of all ages to stay active, connect with others, and enjoy everything this incredible region has to offer.”<\/p>\n
“Torquay and the Surf Coast are already known as hubs for surfing and water sports, and this new facility will take that reputation to the next level. We’re proud to be delivering an accessible, all-weather, state-of-the-art facility that’s just 15 minutes from Armstrong Creek.”<\/p>\n
Shire mayor Mike Bodsworth said the aquatic centre’s splash pak woud be a hit with children, while adults would appreciate the added comfort of the spa, sauna, and steam room<\/p>\n
“Having a dedicated learn to swim pool is a vital addition and has been a focus for dedicated community advocates across decades.<\/p>\n
“The centre will have something for everyone, so locals and visitors will be able to swim, bathe and splash around, regardless of what the weather is doing outside.”<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
