“I was pretty stoked, really happy,” Wrochna said upon hearing the news.<\/p>\n
“A lot of hard work has gone into this, both on my side and my parents’ side.<\/p>\n
“I’m super excited. I wouldn’t say too many nerves, because I’ve been looking forward to this for three years now.”<\/p>\n
After joining the Buccaneers program at the age o12 years old, Wrochna said he realised that he wanted to pursue gridiron during his third season.<\/p>\n
“I had a coach that was from America and he saw that I had the potential,” he said.<\/p>\n
“Then that kind of opened my eyes to the opportunity that (it) really is possible to make the move.”<\/p>\n
The quarterback said his athleticism and dynamic approach to the position were key strengths that he will look to use at Cathedral Catholic.<\/p>\n
“I’m a runner and a passer, so a dual threat.<\/p>\n
“I pride myself on my athletic ability, so being able to challenge defences with my arm and then on the ground.”<\/p>\n
Wrochna has been overwhelmed by the support he has received across his career, which he will not forget throughout his journey.<\/p>\n
“I’ve had some incredible support on social media from a lot of my friends and the ‘Bucs’ community,” he said.<\/p>\n
“The whole Buccaneers organisation, they’re incredible people, incredibly supportive. They’ve been with me through everything, my whole journey.<\/p>\n
“And my parents, they’re doing the most.”<\/p>\n
Buccaneers President Dan Noonan is excited for Wrochna’s prospects.<\/p>\n
“Watching Jordy grow and develop – from the 11-year-old who first joined our flag football competition, to stepping up as a 12-year-old playing in our U16s, and ultimately co-captaining our U18 team – has been amazing,” he said.<\/p>\n
“This opportunity hasn’t been the result of luck, but is a testament to Jordy’s dedication, effort, and commitment to becoming a better football player and young man.<\/p>\n
“We couldn’t be prouder to see (him) chase (his) dream and represent the Geelong Buccaneers on an international stage!”<\/p>\n
The Buccaneers are recruiting for their coming season, with their junior program open to anyone aged between 13 and 17.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
