SPORTS apparel brand Indigo Wolf exploded onto the scene 15 years ago with the mission to make gear that lasts and reflects the pride of the schools and clubs that wear it.<\/p>\n

A former physical education teacher, co-founder and director Nathan Sayers ditched the classroom in 2010 alongside Damian MacRae to build the brand from the group up \u2014 a move inspired by a shared frustration with cheap, uninspired uniforms unable to last the term.<\/p>\n

Today, the brand offers a range of jackets, hoodies, knitted rugby jerseys, beanies, hats and bags, which are all customisable to reflect the identity of the business’s client schools.<\/p>\n

Sustainability is also a strong focus of the business, with a made-to-order approach employed to reduce waste and ensure no stock is left gathering dust.<\/p>\n

Earlier this year, the business teamed up with Patagonia<\/a>, becoming an authorised supplier for the outdoor brand \u2014 widely considered one of the world’s most ethical apparel brands \u2014 to schools and clubs across the country.<\/p>\n

The partnership allows these group to feature their logos on Patagonia-branded apparel.<\/p>\n

It is this partnership, and the leadership required to achieve it, judge Greg Birchall said, that clinched Sayers the Business Leader of the Year award in this year’s Torquay Business Awards.<\/p>\n

“Some 3,000 schools and clubs across Australia have called on Indigo Wolf to deliver standout gear, from locals like Torquay College, Surf Coast Secondary College, Torquay Tigers and Jan Juc kinder, to schools and groups across Queensland and NSW, while it remains firmly connected to its local Surf Coast community, roots and values,” Birchall said.<\/p>\n

“Our judging was [centred around] the quality of the company, the work that they do, their environmental sustainability record, and their community alertness and connection and contribution.<\/p>\n

“I gave [Sayers] 10 out of 10 for environmental sustainability, and I was very impressed by his community connection\u2026 This is no wasteful, fast fashion behemoth.”<\/p>\n
