By 2021, the population was 3,788 showing a population growth of 41.1 per cent in the area during that time.<\/p>\n<p>Perched at the entrance to Port Phillip Bay where the ocean meets the bay, Point Lonsdale is a character-filled seaside town blending coastal beauty, maritime history and a laid-back village feel.<\/p>\n<p>Just over an hour from Melbourne, it has long been a favourite holiday spot for families, day-trippers and those drawn to the Bellarine Peninsula\u2019s relaxed charm.<\/p>\n<p>The town\u2019s most recognisable landmark is the Point Lonsdale Lighthouse, which has guided ships through the notorious \u201cRip\u201d \u2014 one of Australia\u2019s most treacherous stretches of water \u2014 since 1902. Set on a bluff overlooking the ocean, the lighthouse precinct also offers panoramic views across to Point Nepean and Bass Strait, and remains a popular destination for walkers, photographers and history enthusiasts.<\/p>\n<p>Along the bay side, Point Lonsdale Pier is a favourite spot for fishing, strolling and soaking in views across the calm waters of Port Phillip. The sheltered bay beaches are perfect for families, while the ocean beach to the south provides surf breaks, rockpools and wild coastal scenery.<\/p>\n<p>The town centre retains a charming village character, with cafes, boutique shops and a small by lively strip of services catering to both locals and visitors. Nearby Queenscliff, just a few minutes\u2019 drive away, provides additional amenities and attractions, including the Searoad Ferry terminal linking the Bellarine with the Mornington Peninsula.<\/p>\n<p>Point Lonsdale is steeped in maritime and military history.
