WITH the Bellarine Football League wrapping up on the weekend, all sides can now turn their attention to 2026.<\/p>\n

While Anglesea will be planning a back-to-back effort, the four other seniors finals sides will be figuring out how they can hold up the premiership cup next year.<\/p>\n

Anglesea<\/strong><\/p>\n

It is hard to believe that up until the end of the last round, the Roos’ finals aspirations were up for grabs. In a true fairytale, Anglesea avenged last year’s Grand Final loss to go one better in 2025, all from fifth place. A five-game losing streak from Round 9 to Round 13 gave them a 5-7 record and put their backs against the wall. However, the Roos never gave up and found their best form at the right time<\/a>, winning their first flag in 26 years.<\/p>\n

Geelong Amateur<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Ammos are left scratching their heads after a shock Grand Final loss. They were the best side in it all year<\/a> and entered the decider as favourites thanks to their stacked line-up. Despite falling short at the final hurdle, they can take pride in a year that saw them lose just four times and will be right in the hunt again in 2026.<\/p>\n

Torquay<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Tigers’ threepeat hopes came crashing down in the Preliminary Final, losing by 39 points to eventual premiers Anglesea. At the halfway point of the year, it seemed Torquay were again going to be the team to beat, but it wasn’t meant to be with four losses from their last five games.<\/p>\n

Queenscliff<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Coutas made large strides in 2025, finishing third and giving themselves a shot at their first flag in 13 years. However, the young side did not fire a shot in the postseason, losing convincingly to Torquay and Anglesea and bowing out in straight sets. Queenscliff now know that their best can match it with anyone, but they will need to learn to do so when it matters most in 2026.<\/p>\n

Drysdale<\/strong><\/p>\n

With most of the attention on the other finals sides, the Hawks quietly finished fourth and just missed out on the double chance. Their Elimination Final matchup was against a flying Anglesea outfit who blew them out of the water by 71 points. As the BFL becomes as tight as ever, there is nothing stopping the Hawks from breaking their 15-year flag drought.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
