THE Anglesea Transfer Station has relaunched its soft plastic recycling program and is now an authorised drop off point for unwanted paints.<\/p>\n

This follows a successful trial collection in 2024, which saw almost 500 residents drop off a combined 890kg of soft plastics in just three days.<\/p>\n

From this month, households are invited to drop off clean, dry, soft plastics, including bread bags, chip packets, bubble wrap, plastic bags and cling film at no charge.<\/p>\n

Collected soft plastics will be baled at Anglesea and sent to a Melbourne recycling facility to be turned into new soft plastic packaging, road materials or converted into gas for energy.<\/p>\n

Surf Coast Shire councillor Leon Walker welcomed the introduction of an ongoing soft plastic recycling program on the Surf Coast.<\/p>\n

“It is fantastic to be able to recycle our soft plastics locally again,” Cr Walker said.<\/p>\n

“The trial collection in 2024 was an overwhelming success, and we know the community has been waiting for this ongoing opportunity.”<\/p>\n

The Anglesea Transfer Station is now also accepting eligible paints and packaging from households and professional painters at no charge.<\/p>\n

The paint will be separated and recycled into fuel and other by-products at a specialist facility, while the paint tins and plastic tubs will be recycled.<\/p>\n

Eligible paint must be in its original container, with tins no larger than 20L. A maximum of 100L of eligible paint products can be dropped off per visit.<\/p>\n

“We know waste is one of the biggest challenges and costs we face as a community,” Cr Walker said.<\/p>\n

“Every item we can keep out of landfill and feed back into the circular economy helps reduce both the environmental and financial impacts.”<\/p>\n
