SURF Coast Shire councillor Rebecca Bourke has submitted her immediate resignation and will step away from her position to prioritise her young family\u2019s wellbeing.<\/p>\n
Ms Bourke released a statement this afternoon (Thursday, September 25), saying it was with \u201ca heavy heart\u201d that she had come to the decision to resign today.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt has been a true privilege to represent you,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cI remain incredibly proud of what we have achieved together during my time on council, and I am committed to supporting our community and families through my personal volunteer work and my mental health practice.\u201d<\/p>\n
Surf Coast Shire chief executive officer Robyn Seymour thanked Ms Bourke for her service.<\/p>\n
\u201cDuring her time on Council, Mrs Bourke has shown a genuine passion for representing her local community. We wish her and her family all the best,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
On the council’s behalf, shire mayor Mike Bodsworth thanked Mrs Bourke for her work as a councillor.<\/p>\n
“Her dedication to improved health and wellbeing outcomes for young people has particularly shone through during her time on Council. Sincere best wishes to Rebecca for the future.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Surf Coast Shire has notified the Local Government Minister and the Victorian Electoral Commission (VEC) of Mrs Bourke\u2019s resignation.<\/p>\n
The VEC will run a countback process from the 2024 local government election to determine a new councillor for the Torquay Ward.<\/p>\n
Based on first preference voting from November, Phoebe Crockett received the most votes at 1501, followed by Eric Menogue (910) and Martin Duke (848).<\/p>\n
