GEELONG captain Patrick Dangerfield has paid tribute to the club\u2019s fans, thanking them for their \u201cunwavering support\u201d at the Cats\u2019 Family Day event at St Mary\u2019s Football Club.<\/p>\n
The gathering comes less than 24 hours after Geelong\u2019s 47-point defeat to Brisbane in Saturday\u2019s Grand Final at the MCG, watched by more than 100,000 fans.<\/p>\n
Despite the loss, hundreds turned out on Sunday morning to welcome the Grand Final side, with Dangerfield expressing his gratitude.<\/p>\n
\u201cThank you for your unwavering support,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis year, for me, has been the most engaged I\u2019ve ever seen our supporters. The last month in particular has been incredible.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhile it didn\u2019t end the way we all hoped, I still feel there\u2019s a huge opportunity ahead for this group.\u201d<\/p>\n
Cats coach Chris Scott also acknowledged the club\u2019s backers after a season that saw Geelong finish second on the ladder and reach their seventh Grand Final in 18 years.<\/p>\n
\u201cI just feel so proud of the football club,\u201d Scott said.<\/p>\n
\u201cNot just over the past 12 months, but over a very long period of time.\u201d<\/p>\n
