AIREYS Inlet CFA will host an open day on Sunday, October 5, as part of a statewide initiative involving 500 brigades to help communities prepare for the bushfire season.<\/p>\n

The Surf Coast brigade will welcome residents to its Pearse Road station from 10.30am to 1pm, with volunteers on hand to help create fire plans, discuss property preparation and demonstrate how to use the VicEmergency app.<\/p>\n

Aireys Inlet captain Adam Gilliver said connecting with the community and ensuring the area was prepared for an emergency was vital.<\/p>\n

“This open day gives us a chance to encourage the community to do their part in assisting us so we can continue to protect lives and property.<\/p>\n

“We’re always here to help and this get fire ready event is a great way to have that open discussion with our local community.<\/p>\n

“It’s important for residents in high-risk areas to be aware of their local dangers so they can act accordingly.”<\/p>\n

The season outlook indicates parts of Victoria, including the south west region, will face an increased fire risk throughout spring, with the CFA urging people to get on the front foot.<\/p>\n

Communities not at a heightened risk of fire are also encouraged to be vigilant and stay alert throughout spring.<\/p>\n

Preparation for community members can be as simple as mowing lawns, trimming branches, having a plan and setting a watch zone in the VicEmergency app.<\/p>\n

Aireys Inlet CFA will be open from 10.30am until 1pm.<\/p>\n

On the Surf Coast, the Bellbrae, Winchelsea and Anglesea brigades will also be participating in the weekend.<\/p>\n
