{"id":172004,"date":"2025-10-10T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2025-10-09T17:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/?p=172004"},"modified":"2025-10-10T09:18:59","modified_gmt":"2025-10-09T22:18:59","slug":"gca-to-start-after-round-1-washout","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/sport\/gca-to-start-after-round-1-washout\/","title":{"rendered":"GCA to start after Round 1 washout"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>THE GCA 1st XI competition is set to officially start this weekend after inclement weather caused all Round 1 matches to be abandoned.<\/p>\n<p>It will be the first of two weekends that will see all eight sides play in a one-day format, before the two-day format begins from round four onwards.<\/p>\n<p>North Geelong will start their premiership defence when they take on Grovedale, who will look to go one better than last year after losing in the Preliminary Final.<\/p>\n<p>Last season&#8217;s minor premiers<a href=\"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/sport\/swans-open-up-gap-grubbers-knock-on-the-door-of-top-four-gca-bpca-cricket-wrap\/\"> Newtown &amp; Chilwell<\/a> will take on Lara at Bisinella Oval, looking to avenge their Grand Final loss and start the year with a win.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, the Cats are back into Division 1 after spending the 2024\/25 seasons in the second division.<\/p>\n<p>South Barwon will host St Peters at Reynolds Oval after a disappointing 2024\/25 campaign that saw them win just one match. The Saints just missed out on finals last season and will aim to jump back into the top four.<\/p>\n<p>Rounding out the first weekend back is St Josephs&#8217; clash with East Belmont at Zampatti Oval, with the two teams finishing sixth and seventh respectively in 2024\/25.<\/p>\n<p>Highton will play in Division 2 this season after being replaced by Lara in the top flight.<\/p>\n<p>All matches will begin at 12.15pm tomorrow (Saturday, October 11).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>THE GCA 1st XI competition is set to officially start this weekend after inclement weather caused all Round 1 matches to be abandoned.
