WORKS on new female changerooms and bathroom facilities at Torquay’s Spring Creek Reserve are about to start, with BDH Constructions awarded the contract to deliver the upgrades.<\/p>\n

The upgrade will modernise the pavilion’s ground floor facilities, refurbishing the home and away changerooms and umpire rooms, and upgrading showers, toilets and bathroom spaces.<\/p>\n

A new hot water system and service improvements will also be installed.<\/p>\n

Kelly Architects prepared the detailed designs earlier this year in consultation with the clubs, with works expected to start by the middle of this month and be completed in early 2026.<\/p>\n

The federal government is contributing $700,000 in the project, alongside $75,000 from the AFL’s Australian Football Facilities Fund and $40,000 from the Surf Coast Shire.<\/p>\n

Corangamite federal member Libby Coker and shire mayor Mike Bodsworth met representatives of local sporting clubs at the changerooms earlier this week to mark the next stage of the project.<\/p>\n

“The Albanese Government is investing in facilities that give women and girls the chance to take part in sport on equal terms,” Ms Coker said.<\/p>\n

“By delivering modern changerooms here at Spring Creek Reserve, we’re encouraging more people in our community to get involved and stay active.”<\/p>\n

Cr Bodsworth said it was great to see the works under way.<\/p>\n

“Female participation in football and cricket is increasing and we want to make sure everyone can play the sport they love without any obstacles.<\/p>\n

“It’s an exciting time for the Spring Creek Recreation Reserve precinct, with the oval redevelopment as well. The timing of both projects is being co-ordinated to reduce the impacts to the community.<\/p>\n

“We thank the Torquay Cricket Club for their understanding as we redevelop these facilities.”<\/p>\n
