Image: SUPPLIED<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Ms Coker said it would be a &#8220;legacy project&#8221; for the growing township.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The four-court centre is so much needed, and I know local families will embrace it as soon as its doors are open.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>It will be located between the Surf Coast Highway and Barwarre Road, to the north of the Armstrong Creek town centre site, less than 10 minutes from the Waurn Ponds Sporting Complex.<\/p>\n<p>Crews are also onsite at Stead Park in Corio, as a <a href=\"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/news\/stead-park-lines-up-for-national-stage\/\">major redevelopment of the facility&#8217;s western pitch gets underway<\/a>. Image: SUPPLIED<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Works began last month and are also expected to be completed in late-2026.<\/p>\n<p>But while each of these sporting projects progress, questions remain about the future of the site to the south of Waurn Ponds train station that was earmarked for what would have been the Commonwealth Games village.<\/p>\n<p>In March last year, <a href=\"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/news\/waurn-ponds-housing-development\/\">Premier Jacinta Allan announced up to 400 new homes, including about 72 social and affordable homes, would be built at the site<\/a>, which is bordered by Muri Road and Baanip Boulevard.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_122879\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-122879\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-122879\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/21\/2025\/10\/waurn-ponds_website-1024x595.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"349\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-122879\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">But questions remain about the future of the site to the south of Waurn Ponds train station that was earmarked for what would have been the Commonwealth Games village.
