{"id":174733,"date":"2025-11-20T04:00:48","date_gmt":"2025-11-19T17:00:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/?p=174733"},"modified":"2025-11-19T15:15:32","modified_gmt":"2025-11-19T04:15:32","slug":"womens-surfing-celebrated","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/news\/womens-surfing-celebrated\/","title":{"rendered":"Women&#8217;s surfing celebrated"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>HUNDREDS of women and girls took over Lorne over the weekend for the second edition of the Great Ocean Road Women&#8217;s Surf Festival.<\/p>\n<p>The celebration of women&#8217;s surfing attracted over 500 entries across learn to surf sessions, surf competitions, workshops and intermediate coaching sessions.<\/p>\n<p>This was alongside the more than 2,000 people who flocked to the Lorne foreshore for the Swell Market, which boasted more than 20 local vendors.<\/p>\n<p>The event was highlighted by the attendance of 2025 Rip Curl Pro Bells Beach champion Isabella Nichols.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 603px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2025\/11\/IMG_21721_13269.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"603\" height=\"452\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Ten times Bells Beach champion Gail Couper with 2025 event winner Isabella Nichols.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The Sunshine Coast local spent the day taking the next generation of Victorian women surfers for a surf session, before participating in a Q&amp;A on her surfing life.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It was inspiring to see so many women and girls coming together for something they love \u2013 surfing,&#8221; Nichols said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I had such a fun day.&#8221;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 602px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2025\/11\/DSC01798_13339.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"602\" height=\"401\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The surfing competition was a huge highlight of the weekend.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 602px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2025\/11\/DSC01896_13386.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"602\" height=\"401\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">There was plenty of excited surfers at the second annual Great Ocean Road Women&#8217;s Surf Festival.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Open Women surf competition winner Estella Carbonelli (Jan Juc) was stoked to be part of the festival.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It was such a sick event.
