THE Surf Coast Shire is calling for community feedback as it investigates new ways to delivery library services to residents in the towns outside Torquay.<\/p>\n

At present, Geelong Regional Libraries operates a mobile library bus that provides a combined total of about 15 hours of service each week across Aireys Inlet, Anglesea, Deans Marsh, Lorne and Winchelsea.<\/p>\n

But its limited operating hours, reduced accessibility for some residents and the ageing condition of the vehicle has prompted the shire to review how the service is delivered.<\/p>\n

Winchelsea ward councillor Tony Phelps said the council wanted to create more convenient and reliable ways for people to borrow, return and access library resources.<\/p>\n

“We’d love to hear from those living in communities across our shire, outside of Torquay, about what’s most important to them when it comes to library services,” he said.<\/p>\n

“We’re exploring new ways to deliver satellite library services, so are considering more flexible and accessible options that might better meet community needs.”<\/p>\n

Possible models being considered include permanent click-and-collect sites, book collections co-located in community facilities with regular staff visits, and 24\/7 library lockers or cabinets where users can browse, borrow and return items at any time.<\/p>\n

“With around one in three Surf Coast Shire residents holding a library membership, it’s important that everyone has access to the services they need,” Cr Phelps said.<\/p>\n

“I urge our hinterland and small coastal community residents to take our short survey, as your feedback will help shape what these services look like.<\/p>\n
