FOR the first time in Anglesea’s policing history, the station will welcome a female officer in charge.<\/p>\n
Sergeant Simonne Corin will take on the position for a six-week period over the summer, making her the first woman to do so.<\/p>\n
Humble in her appointment, Sgt Corin is focused on ensuring she fulfils her role and leads the team through one of its busiest periods.<\/p>\n
“I’m not one to make much of a song and dance or a fuss, so it’s just going down there and doing what I normally do from a sergeant perspective,” she said.<\/p>\n
“It’s a smaller station, it’s got five members, and we’ll be policing out there throughout the summer season.<\/p>\n
“It’s the busiest time of the year for any of us on the Surf Coast, so I’ll be overseeing that as best I can.”<\/p>\n
A police officer for 26 years and presently working out of the Torquay station, Sgt Corin often links in with Anglesea and the smaller teams including Lorne and Apollo Bay.<\/p>\n
During her stint in Anglesea she is looking forward to working with her fellow officers and knowing that her Torquay team is right behind her.<\/p>\n
One of the main aims during the six-week period will be to ensure everyone’s safety in the community, particularly as more visitors arrive in the region.<\/p>\n
“Given the influx in holiday makers at that particular time, we really want to make sure everyone enjoys their stay here, but also abides by what rules and regulations and laws we’ve got in place,” Sgt<\/p>\n
Corin said.<\/p>\n
“It’s for everyone’s safety and we won’t tolerate any bad behaviour or any unsociable behaviour, because that can affect both locals and community at large.”<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
