{"id":176098,"date":"2025-12-11T04:00:24","date_gmt":"2025-12-10T17:00:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/?p=176098"},"modified":"2025-12-10T14:13:43","modified_gmt":"2025-12-10T03:13:43","slug":"afterglow-shines-on-the-surf-coast","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/news\/afterglow-shines-on-the-surf-coast\/","title":{"rendered":"Afterglow shines on the Surf Coast"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>THE 11th Afterglow Night Run has gone down as one of the biggest and best yet, with 650 donning their brighest colours for a good cause.<\/p>\n<p>Rainbow runners from across Victoria sported outfits from full blown unicorns to wild pink hairs to leotards and tutu&#8217;s all to raise awareness and funds for Sexual Assault and Family Violence Centre in Geelong.<\/p>\n<p>Athletes set off from Point Addis and adventured along the Surf Coast Walk into Torquay, passing saxaphone players, fire twirlers and cheering supporters.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 403px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2025\/12\/20251206_AaronCollin_39449.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"403\" height=\"605\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Tutu&#8217;s were a common look for runners in the eleventh annual Afterglow marathon.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>In the marquee 21km half marathon, young gun Archie Fifoot recorded the second fastest time ever on course, winning the men&#8217;s division in a time of 1:20:38.<\/p>\n<p>Surf Coast local and past winner Nicole Virant was victorious in the women&#8217;s category with a time of 1:36:15.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 597px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2025\/12\/20251206_AaronCollin_39489.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"597\" height=\"398\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">$5 for every participant who got their nails painted at bib collection went towards SAFV.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>In the 13km distance, local Jan Juc resident, Kevin Chisholm won the mens, while Yarraville resident Jess Barrette took the women&#8217;s title.<\/p>\n<p>The 5km saw a new course record with Jan Juc resident Sahara Lowdon crossing the line in 18:18. Second place went to Jan Juc&#8217;s Pip Harper and third place was taken out by Torquay&#8217;s Kai Vague.<\/p>\n<p>Race director and Anglesea resident Chris Ord said organisers were proud to see so many people donning their bright colours and supporting the prevention of gender-based violence.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 597px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2025\/12\/20251206_AaronCollin_39471.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"597\" height=\"398\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Runners setting off from Point Addis.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We&#8217;re really proud of our event partnership with SAFV Centre and Respect Victoria.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s early days and while we raised a bit of money by donating $5 for every participant who got their nails painted at bib collection, we hope to grow the event and amounts raised in future with more individual fundraising.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We want to really get the conversation going around preventing sexual assault and family violence while also promoting safer environments for women when they go for a run.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>THE 11th Afterglow Night Run has gone down as one of the biggest and best yet, with 650 donning their brighest colours for a good cause.
