Home opens up in Torquay"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>A SMALL sustainable house on tour opened its doors in Torquay at the weekend.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The RACV Tiny Home was one of the star attractions at a free family day held on Sunday at the RACV Torquay Resort as part of Sustainable House Day.<\/p>\n<p>RACV teamed with award-winning Australian architect Peter Maddison (who also spoke on Sunday) to design the RACV Tiny Home, which showcases what makes a home comfortable to live in and affordable to run.<\/p>\n<p>Using good design principles, clever materials and the latest in smart living technology, the little concept dwelling is a tiny home with big ideas.<\/p>\n<p>RACV Home program manager Bess Nolan-Cook said the Tiny Home\u2019s design and features could help people get the most out of our homes, whether new or old.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEverything inside and out of the Tiny Home highlights the benefits of good design and material choices.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s backed by smarter technology which allows householders to stay on top of their energy consumption as they live more efficiently.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe want people visiting the RACV Tiny Home to be inspired by great ideas that they can apply to their own homes that will make a real difference to their cost of living.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mr Maddison spoke about the Tiny Home on Sunday, as did garden design guru Jamie Durie in a talk about the urban food bowl.<\/p>\n<p>The free family day also featured live music and seedling planting for children.<\/p>\n<p>Sustainable House Day is run across Australia by the not-for-profit Alternative Technology Association (ATA), and allows people to tour innovative homes in the spirit of inspiring, educating and sharing new sustainable technologies and
