THE Surf Coast Shire has confirmed it will seek an external operator to run the new Wurdi Baierr Aquatic and Recreation Centre ahead of its planned 2027 opening.<\/p>\n
The facility will add aquatic, gym and allied health spaces to the existing stadium, and council says an external management model will help ensure the centre operates efficiently while keeping community access affordable.<\/p>\n
A tender process is expected to open in mid-January, with the successful operator to begin on site at the Wurdi Baierr Stadium precinct late next year.<\/p>\n
Cr Liz Pattison said the move would not disrupt existing users.<\/p>\n
“This change will have minimal impact on user groups and community members, with all existing stadium bookings to continue as normal,” she said.<\/p>\n
“Council will continue managing bookings until the handover has been completed. We want to make the transition as smooth as possible for everyone.”<\/p>\n
The shire will continue to set all fees and changes for the stadium and aquatic centre through its annual budget process.<\/p>\n
The incoming operator will set cafe and merchandising prices, but the council says these are expected to stay consistent with regular market rates.<\/p>\n
Construction on the new Wurdi Baieer Aquatic and Recreation Centre remains is expected to wrap up before the end of 2026, with doors to the facility to open to the public in early 2027.<\/p>\n
