MORE than 1,100 swimmers will hit the water in next weekend’s Danger Ocean Swim Series on the Surf Coast.<\/p>\n

The January 3 event will be held at Point Danger in Torquay, with competitors set to take on four different race lengths.<\/p>\n

The Danger 500 and Danger 1000 races will be held within the protected waters of Torquay Front Beach on a triangular course, with beach starts on the sand.<\/p>\n

The 2.5km and 5km events will also start and finish at Torquay Front Beach, sending swimmers from Cosy Corner to a turnaround point at Fishermans Beach.<\/p>\n

A Danger Fash wading event will also be held for children aged between 6 and 12.<\/p>\n

The swimming classic is one of the largest open water events in Australia and will once again raise vital funds for the Jan Juc Surf Life Saving Club (SLSC).<\/p>\n

Jan Juc SLSC committee member, Steve Jewson, said momentum was building as race day approached.<\/p>\n

“We’ve kept our prices down again this year to get attendance up and entries seem to coming in really nicely so far,” he said.<\/p>\n

“It’s our biggest annual fundraiser. Running surf clubs are an expensive business before you even get on the beach and do what you’re supposed to do.<\/p>\n

“We hope to make as much as we can, and hopefully we get some great conditions for the day, which will help to attract more people.”<\/p>\n

The 2.5km and 5km races will kick off at 9am, followed by the Danger Dash at 10am, Danger 1000 at 11am and marquee Danger 1000 at 11.30am.<\/p>\n
