COMMUNITY members will step out for a meaningful cause next month when the Lighthouse Classic returns to Aireys Inlet.<\/p>\n

Taking place on January 18, the coastal walk and run follows a scenic loop from the Aireys Inlet Lighthouse, bringing people together to shine a light on cancer.<\/p>\n

All funds raised will support the Fiona Elsey Cancer Research Institute (FECRI) in memory of event founder Janet Jones, who served on the organisation’s board before her passing in 2021.<\/p>\n

The sixth edition of the event will again be led by Janet’s family \u2014 her son Harry, daughters Lucy and Felicity, and husband Peter.<\/p>\n

“We are really looking forward to it and can’t wait for everyone to be able to walk together on the Sunday,” Harry said.<\/p>\n

“It’ll be a great community event to kick off the year, that’s for sure!<\/p>\n

“Once again, we will be raising money to hopefully fund a scientist for the year at the Fiona Elsey Cancer Research Institute.<\/p>\n

“We can’t wait to see all the smiling faces and to share this amazing day with everyone.”<\/p>\n

Since 2021, the Lighthouse Classic has raised more than $150,000 to help fund a cancer research scientist at the FECRI in Ballarat.<\/p>\n

The Jones family has set a $25,000 fundraising goal for this year’s event.<\/p>\n

“It just continues to be such a great community event that gets everyone together for a really important cause,” Harry said.<\/p>\n

“Hopefully the sun is shining and we will see upward of 150 walkers on the day.”<\/p>\n
