ONE of Australia’s longest-running ironman events will return to Torquay next weekend and all eyes will be on the person who takes out the coveted trophy in 2026.<\/p>\n
The 65th edition of the Jim Wall Iron Classic will be held on Sunday, January 4 at Torquay Beach.<\/p>\n
The event attracts upwards of 300 competitors annually who challenge themselves in all round surf and water ability.<\/p>\n
Athletes will be tasked with continuous efforts in board paddling, swimming, ski padding and running.<\/p>\n
Torquay Surf Life Saving Club competition manager, Matt Henderson, said the club was expecting a star-studded field for the world-class classic.<\/p>\n
“We are looking forward to getting some competitors from the World Ocean Series and northern states who will try their luck against our local up-and-comers,” he said.<\/p>\n
Mr Henderson said the club was excited to offer a substantial prize pool of $8,000 across the full day of racing.<\/p>\n
This will be spread between junior, youth and open age group races, as well as teams’ relays.<\/p>\n
“We think it’s really important to reward the efforts of athletes from all age groups,” Mr Henderson said.<\/p>\n
“It’s a fantastic program, filled with plenty of incredible individual races, mixed taplins, camerons and so much more.<\/p>\n
“We can’t wait to see the depth of talent put on display by each club.”<\/p>\n
