MORE than 800 Nippers will take to Fishermans Beach in Torquay next week for the second carnival of the Life Saving Victoria junior season.<\/p>\n
Nipper Fest will take place on Thursday, January 8, inviting young lifesavers from more than 30 state clubs to the beach to enjoy a day of competition.<\/p>\n
The annual event is traditionally the biggest junior event on the Victorian lifesaving sports calendar outside of the state championships.<\/p>\n
Athletes will compete in both on beach and in water activities including swimming, board paddling, running, beach flags and wading.<\/p>\n
Torquay Surf Life Saving Club will be looking to defend its title on home soil after taking the win at the 2025 edition of the carnival.<\/p>\n
Club president, Matt Carmichael, said the club would have close to 200 of its own nippers competing.<\/p>\n
“We are really looking forward to it. It’s sure to be a great day of competing for all the young up-and-coming lifesavers in the state.<\/p>\n
“The location change from Cosy Corner to Fishermans Beach is sure to give us some more space to run beach events, which will be a welcome addition.<\/p>\n
“We are always excited to host it and can’t wait to welcome everyone down to Torquay.”<\/p>\n
