AUSTRALIAN Olympic swimmer Sam Short has his eyes firmly set on the golden trophy at this year’s Pier to Pub.<\/p>\n

The 22-year-old is coming off a podium finish at last year’s event and is hoping to go a few places better when the event returns on January 10.<\/p>\n

Short will be among more than 1,000 competitors taking to the water for the Lorne classic, and said he was relishing the chance to embrace the weekend and test himself again.<\/p>\n

“I’m absolutely thrilled for this year’s Pier to Pub,” he said. “I had an amazing experience last year and can’t wait to dive back in and be part of the event again.<\/p>\n

“There’s something special about the camaraderie after the event, the sense of achievement, the buzz and the shared energy makes it a really unique experience that keeps me coming back.<\/p>\n

“It’s such a fun, energising atmosphere, and I’m really looking forward to the challenge.”<\/p>\n

While the atmosphere is part of the appeal, Short said his focus this year is improving on last season’s result.<\/p>\n

“I’ve been training hard. I’m fitter, lighter and feeling strong, so I’m aiming to push my limits and hopefully improve my time \u2013 and hopefully that means less running for me this year,” he said.<\/p>\n

“Overall, I’m just really excited to be part of it again and soak up the incredible atmosphere.”<\/p>\n
