{"id":177934,"date":"2026-01-11T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2026-01-10T17:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/?p=177934"},"modified":"2026-01-07T20:39:32","modified_gmt":"2026-01-07T09:39:32","slug":"big-turnout-marks-15th-tim-gates-classic-at-fairhaven","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/news\/big-turnout-marks-15th-tim-gates-classic-at-fairhaven\/","title":{"rendered":"Big turnout marks 15th Tim Gates Classic at Fairhaven"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>MORE than 500 participants took to the beach at Fairhaven last week for the 15th edition of the Tim Gates Classic.<\/p>\n<p>Locals and visitors hit the sand to complete either a 5km or 10km fun run or walk, held in memory of Tim Gates, who lost his life on the local beach 15 years ago.<\/p>\n<p>All funds raised from the event will go towards the Fairhaven Surf Life Saving Club, supporting the purchase of equipment and the delivery of beach education programs.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2026\/01\/IMG_8988_38778.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The Tim Gates Classic has been running for 15 years in memory of local resident Tim Gates.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Tim&#8217;s daughter, Sarah Gates, said the milestone event exceeded expectations.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The whole day ran really smoothly with the usual rush of on-the-day entrants arriving close to race start time,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It always feels like such a great community event \u2013 everyone has a smile on their face and is there to enjoy the run or walk along the beach as well as catch up with friends.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2026\/01\/IMG_9033_38775.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Locals and visitors hit the sand to complete either a 5km or 10km fun run or walk.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We loved seeing people stick around after the event to enjoy a drink and some live music in the sunset bar \u2013 something Dad always loved to do.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Ms Gates said it was also fantastic to see a strong turnout from the Achilles Running Group, with many vision-impaired runners taking part in the 10km event.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>MORE than 500 participants took to the beach at Fairhaven last week for the 15th edition of the Tim Gates Classic.
