{"id":178901,"date":"2026-01-24T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2026-01-23T17:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/?p=178901"},"modified":"2026-01-23T14:18:56","modified_gmt":"2026-01-23T03:18:56","slug":"groundbreaking-lifesaving-film-to-come-to-jan-juc","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/news\/groundbreaking-lifesaving-film-to-come-to-jan-juc\/","title":{"rendered":"Groundbreaking lifesaving film to come to Jan Juc"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A POWERFUL new documentary is helping to inspire the next generation of surf lifesavers on the Surf Coast.<\/p>\n<p>Australia&#8217;s greatest ironman Ali Day stars in new Australian film Chasing the Gold which will be showcased at the Jan Juc SLSC clubhouse tomorrow (Saturday, January 24).<\/p>\n<p>Created by acclaimed filmmaker Wes Greene, Chasing the Gold uncovers the remarkable history of surf lifesaving in Australia and the untold story behind the Coolangatta Gold.<\/p>\n<p>The documentary follows three of the sport&#8217;s biggest names &#8211; Ali Day, Conner Maggs and Lana Rogers through the 40th anniversary of the gruelling event.<\/p>\n<p>Star of the show Ali Day hopes the film can inspire athletes to become the best versions of themselves.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I hope the film encourages young people to get involved in surf lifesaving, push themselves, and never give up on their goals.&#8221;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2026\/01\/ChasingTheGoldConner_26770.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"257\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Ali Day is the greatest ironman of all time and is chasing a historic tenth title in his final season.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Jan Juc SLSC competition manager Tim Watson said the local club was thrilled to be hosting the screenings alongside tomorrow&#8217;s senior life saving carnival.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We are really stoked to be bringing it here, particularly because Wes is a former Juc member and his kids did Nippers with us.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;There isn&#8217;t many films that come out about surf lifesaving, so to have one about Ali, who is one of the best to ever do it, is just amazing viewing for our young up and comers.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Hopefully people can watch this and it inspire them to be part of the movement.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>There will be screenings of Chasing the Gold at 2pm and 6pm.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A POWERFUL new documentary is helping to inspire the next generation of surf lifesavers on the Surf Coast.
