AN ANGLESEA Cricket Club legend will notch up a huge milestone this weekend, lining up in his 500th match for his beloved home club.<\/p>\n
Mark Stoneham will throw on the greens in C Grade against Barrabool at Ellimatta Reserve and break the games record for Anglesea today (Saturday, January 24).<\/p>\n
He first came to the club when he was 20 years old and coached and played the A Grade side for five years.<\/p>\n
Under his leadership they broke through to win an A Grade premiership in 1985\/86, before he went on to coach the B Grade and C Grade sides.<\/p>\n
Stoneham’s resume is stacked having won seven club champion honours, being inducted as a member of the 50th Year of ACC A Grade side and becoming an eight-time premiership player.<\/p>\n
Across his career he has made 14,396 runs, including 19 centuries, to go with 417 wickets.<\/p>\n
The Anglesea CC legend said he was honoured to be making history at a club which has meant so much to him over the journey.<\/p>\n
“I’m excited about it. I’m the only one at the club to hit the milestone, which is pretty special.<\/p>\n
“I’ve been around here a long time. I’ve played with a lot of generations of players and it’s been incredible to help teach them the right way to play the game. You play hard, but fair and enjoy the game.<\/p>\n
“This is a real family club. You only have to look at the kids in the nets all day every day to see what it’s all about.”<\/p>\n
