A busy Geelong intersection became the scene of a dramatic police operation on Thursday afternoon after a stolen vehicle was allegedly driven at officers.<\/p>\n

Police say the Air Wing spotted a Kia Optima, alleged to have been stolen from New South Wales, near the intersection of Princes Highway and Roebuck Street in Newtown at about 3.40pm.<\/p>\n

Officers attempted to intercept the vehicle, which allegedly reversed into a bus, as the occupants tried to flee.<\/p>\n

The Kia is then alleged to have been driven at police, at which point officers discharged their firearm, before the vehicle collided with another car.<\/p>\n

The occupants, a man and woman from New South Wales, fled on foot but were arrested a short time later nearby.<\/p>\n

The 37-year-old man was taken to hospital under police guard with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to the arm.<\/p>\n

The 37-year-old woman was also transported to hospital under police guard with minor injuries.<\/p>\n

The female driver of the other vehicle involved in the collision was also taken to hospital with minor injuries.<\/p>\n

Armed Crime Squad detectives will investigate the incident, with oversight from Professional Standards Command, as is standard procedure following the discharge of a police firearm.<\/p>\n
